Yoga Teacher Training in India
for New York Students

New York has one of the busiest yoga studio scenes in the world, but a growing number of NYC-area teachers are looking past the studio circuit to train at the source. With direct flights from JFK and Newark to Delhi, a Himalayan teacher training in Rishikesh is closer to New York than most people expect -- and far more immersive than any weekend workshop back home.

Why Rishikesh Instead of a US Training

The Difference Between
Home and the Source

New York yoga teachers already have access to countless studios, styles, and workshops -- what the city cannot offer is the Ganges at sunrise, a Himalayan foothill sangha, or a lineage that goes back generations rather than years. That is what a residential training in Rishikesh adds to a New York-trained teacher's foundation.

Please note: every course on this page is 100% residential and takes place only at our campuses in Rishikesh or Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India. We do not run any in-person classes, workshops, or training in New York itself -- this page exists to help students from that region find and plan their trip to train with us in India.

🕉️
Trained Where Yoga Began
Rishikesh sits on the Ganges at the foot of the Himalayas and has been a center of yogic study for centuries -- not a studio converted for the occasion.
📜
Yoga Alliance USA -- Same Body
Yoga Vedanta Trust is registered with Yoga Alliance USA itself, not a foreign equivalent. Your RYT 200 or RYT 300 is the identical credential studios back home already recognize.
💵
A Fraction of US Training Cost
A residential 200-hour TTC here runs from $1,050 all-inclusive -- accommodation, three meals daily, and materials included. Comparable US residential trainings routinely run $3,000-$6,000 before travel.
🏡
100% Residential, Not Commuting
You live, eat, and practice on-site for the full course. No driving between an Airbnb and a studio -- the entire experience is contained in one place.

What US Students Say

"I came as a skeptic. What I found was Swami Gopal Ji sitting cross-legged at 5:45am, utterly present. By day 28, I was a different person. Not better — clearer."

"Waking at 5:45am to the Ganga. Shatkarma. Then 90 minutes of Hatha as the sun rose over the Himalayas. This rhythm changed me permanently."

M
Markus T.
Germany · 200-Hour TTC

"The 300-hour program — Vedanta philosophy, Sanskrit, Yoga Nidra — is extraordinary. This is not a tourist package. This is a serious school."

"As a solo female traveler I was nervous. Within hours I felt completely safe and at home. The community here is unlike anything."

Questions US Students Ask

What is the flight time from New York to the training location?
Air India and United both fly non-stop from Newark (EWR) to Delhi in around 14-15 hours; JFK routes typically connect through Europe or the Gulf. From Delhi, Rishikesh is a further short flight, train, or private transfer -- all arranged with our team once your batch dates are confirmed.
Will there be other students from New York or the US in my batch?
Batches are capped at 15 students and draw from across the US as well as Europe, Australia, and beyond, so you will typically train alongside a mix of nationalities rather than a single-city cohort.
Do I need a visa to do yoga teacher training in India as a US citizen?
Yes. US citizens need an Indian e-Tourist Visa, applied for entirely online. Attending a short-term yoga programme is explicitly listed as a valid purpose for this visa category, and processing usually takes a few days.
Is my certification recognized back home in the US?
Yes. Yoga Vedanta Trust is a Yoga Alliance USA Registered Yoga School (RYS 200 and RYS 300), so graduates register directly as RYT 200 or RYT 300 with the same body that certifies US-based trainings.
Does training happen locally in my state, or only in India?
All residential training takes place only at our campuses in Rishikesh or Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India. We do not offer any local in-person classes -- this page is simply here to help students from your area plan their trip to train with us in India.
