Yoga Teacher Training in Uttarkashi
High Himalayas, India
150km above Rishikesh, where the Bhagirathi River flows cold and the mountains press close —
Tapasalayam, Uttarkashi offers the most authentic Himalayan yoga training in India.
Where ancient sages practiced. Where transformation goes deeper.
Uttarkashi — meaning "Kashi of the North" — is one of the most sacred towns in the Himalayas.
Sitting at 1165 metres on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, surrounded by Himalayan forest,
it is where serious practitioners go when Rishikesh feels too busy, too modern.
🏔
Himalayan Altitude Energy
At 1165m, the air is cleaner and thinner. Morning pranayama at altitude creates a physiological depth that is simply impossible at sea level. Ancient yogis chose mountain locations deliberately — not for the view, but for the prana quality.
🌊
Bhagirathi River — Ganga Source
The Bhagirathi is one of the primary source tributaries of the Ganga. Waking to its sound every morning — cold, fast, sacred — creates a natural rhythm of practice that students at lower altitudes simply cannot access.
🤫
Profound Silence
No tourist shops. No cafes. No Instagram crowds. Just forest, mountains, river, and practice. The silence of Uttarkashi forms the invisible curriculum — it teaches what no classroom can: stillness in the mind itself.
🕌
Ancient Yogic Geography
Uttarkashi is home to the Vishwanath Temple, one of the most sacred Shiva temples in the Himalayas, and is located on the ancient pilgrimage route to Gangotri glacier — the spiritual source of the Ganga.

Uttarkashi — Gateway to Gangotri
Situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Uttarkashi is a place of extraordinary spiritual power. The Ganga Mata Mandir, the ancient Vishwanath Temple, and proximity to the Gangotri glacier make this a living sacred landscape — not just a backdrop for yoga practice, but an integral part of it.
Both locations run the same curriculum, the same Yoga Alliance certified programs, and are led by the same teacher — Swami Gopal Sharma (E-RYT 500). The difference is environment.

Uttarkashi FAQ
Fly Delhi (DEL) → Dehradun (DED) — 45 minutes, then taxi to Uttarkashi — approximately 5 hours (180km on mountain roads). Or take an overnight bus from Delhi ISBT directly to Uttarkashi — roughly 10 hours. We provide detailed arrival guidance after registration confirmation.
Yes — the curriculum is the same as Rishikesh. The 200-hour program is designed for all levels including complete beginners. However, the mountain lifestyle and altitude do require a reasonable level of physical fitness. If you have any health concerns, discuss with us before booking.
Students stay in comfortable rooms near the Tapasalayam practice center — simple, clean, and appropriate for the yogic lifestyle. All rooms are private or twin-share. Hot water available. The accommodation supports the practice environment — peaceful, quiet, away from distraction.
Yes. Uttarkashi is a small, traditional Himalayan town — very different from busy city travel. The spiritual atmosphere means the community is respectful and peaceful. Our team is available on WhatsApp throughout your journey, and students always travel to Uttarkashi in groups on arrival day.
Gangotri glacier is approximately 100km from Uttarkashi. We typically arrange a day excursion to Gangotri on a rest day during the program. This is one of the most profound experiences available to students — standing at the source of the Ganga after weeks of practice.
The curriculum, certification, and teacher are identical. The only difference is location, season, and price. Uttarkashi costs USD 200 more per program due to the logistics of the mountain location. The experience is deeper, more remote, and more intensely Himalayan.
